Conference Champion Prize Money

Alright guys, how should we distribute the prize money for the conference at the mctc championship race(Havasu)?  I think first place should get it all this year.

was it actually distributed

was it actually distributed last year?  I remember hearing about it being split evenly, but I don't remember actually seeing any of it come to our team.  maybe a 250/150/100 breakdown this year since every team can still qualify for Nationals?

so are we awarding money to

so are we awarding money to the top three teams at the havasu race or the top three teams in the conference overall standings after those race results have been incorporated?  i am asking this because last year this race was treated as the "conference championship", but this year since we have created a legitimate conference race series we can also crown a "series champ".  so we could have a different team win the havasu championship race and the series title.  make sense?

Since it wasn't decided

Since it wasn't decided beforehand, I think this year it should depend only on Havasu.

Also, what's up with scoring?  I thought we were scoring things cross country style, which I think is more fair than the current system.  Right now we're favoring teams that are able to bring the most people rather than focusing on race performance.

The scoring is based on the WCCTC and is meant to encourage teams to send a lot of people to a lot of races.  Nationals is scored XC style to encourage speed, and the conference is scored this way to encourage fun fun fun.
I think that it makes sense to give the money to the teams that spent the most on travel during the conference season.

For what it's worth, the

For what it's worth, the places at Powell based on the WCCTC system are the same as the places would've been scored 3 deep XC style.  See the spreadsheet sent out last night to verify.  With that said, there is no perfect scoring system.  If enough people feel like this system is not a good way to go, please make it known (and suggest a new system) and there's no reason we can't consider changing to a more appropriate system.  This is the reason we're instituting this system now, so that we can work kinks like this out now and not when it actually matters (next year)...

I can see the virtue in the current scoring system, and I'm not worried about Powell.  I think our races are pretty much guaranteed to be fun no matter what!  "The more, the merrier" certainly applies, but I think teams should be responsible for encouraging their athletes to come without the extra incentive/stress of earning points per person.  It also seems more fair to leave numbers out of it considering the huge range in the sizes of the schools in our conference.  I personally would like to see xc style scoring at Havasu.
Sorry guys, not trying to make a big fuss, just thought I'd bring it up!

What are you talking about

What are you talking about Janee, your club is the same size as ours.  But seriously, we can change the depth of scoring to whatever we want if people would like change how club size affects the scoring, but I really like the way it is now, so I will be a hard sell.

35 is a legit number, if you had 10 I would say you had a case.  I met your coach at the El Tour Expo, and I'm thinking you people are going to be kicking butt at nationals.

I still think we have a case because it isn't likely that we can get all 35 of our people to race.  Motivation isn't really the issue; money is.  We are definitely working on fundraising, but we aren't able to subsidize anything at this point.  It's not a huge deal--I just think xc scoring would be more fair and it doesn't really hurt anyone.

Ya,  we can definitely talk

Ya,  we can definitely talk about this at camp and figure out all the things we need to do to make this conference good for everyone.  Tell your coach that she should come to camp, Cameron says coaches are Frei.
