How to lead a team

There is a huge difference between leading a team and just managing one. A well managed team will have all of the paperwork, orders, and scheduling done very well, but if a team is not well led it will still fall apart. If you have excellent leadership, your team will forgive a lot of your management mistakes This handbook will be put together to help you as a potential leader avoid some of the pitfalls that I have come across, and also to help you understand the types of thought processes you should develop to be successful as a leader.

In the time that I have spent as a leader of the Arizona TriCats, I have made a lot of mistakes and have been far from perfect. The principles that will be laid down in this book will be more about what I aspired to as a leader, rather than what I have actually pulled off. I just know that coming into a leadership position on a team you care about can be pretty intimidating, and if you aren't scared, then you probably should be. The direction of your club, which is something that you and everyone else cares a lot about, is on your shoulders. You should take the responsibility very seriously. You will make mistakes, but if the team is united and working together, and everyone knows that your heart is in the right place they will forgive you for just about anything and you will accomplish incredible things.
