One of the primary functions of the Falcon Groundspeed Foundation is to host the Annual Lindsay Brown Memorial Triathlon held at the USAF Academy, Colorado every fall.  C3C Lindsay Brown was a Cadet in Squadron FIVE and an Intercollegiate Swimmer. She was also a member of the USAFA Competitive Triathlon Team.  Cadet Brown was killed in a car accident in Florida on 21 December 2007 only four days after she returned home on Leave. She will forever be missed by hundreds of teammates and friends at the Academy. Lindsay lived everyday to the fullest and never had any regrets. She was reading a book at the time of her death in which she wrote a quote while taking notes. She wrote, “It’s time to get out of my seat and get going!” That quote shows her determination and will to try new things.  It is only fitting that there be an opportunity for many other people to try a new thing in her honor: completing a triathlon. All proceeds from the Lindsay Brown Triathlon races will be donated to the Rando Fund.
The Rando Fund was established in 1997 by the Cadet Parents' Association of Eastern Massachusetts as a way to honor Cadet Dennis P Rando of Massachusetts who was one of three cadets and three instructor pilots at the AFA who were killed in the T-3 Firefly (two seat propeller aircraft used to teach cadets how to fly for the first time) incidents of the mid-late nineties.  The cadets that flew to Massachusetts to serve as an honor guard at Dennis' funeral, paid their own way to Massachusetts.  When the parents club heard that the cadets paid their own way because the AFA's budget does not have the fund's to support that type of activity, they put out a request to other cadet parents on what would eventually be the "FamNet" to donate funds in order to reimburse the cadets for their travel expenses.  The support for the cadets far exceeded what was necessary to reimburse the cadets for their travel. The idea was then conceived, that they would spearhead a national initiative to raise funds to support a primary mission of providing the resources for about 6 cadets to attend the funeral of any cadet that dies while attending the AFA and serve as an honor guard representing the AFA, cadet and cadet families.  The secondary mission for the Fund is providing resources for cadets with a financial need to be able to travel home to attend a funeral of loved one, or in the case of a serious illness or injury at home.   The Rando Fund is a 501 c 3 IRS and Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved charitable organization.
